The Rainbow Party
by Cheryl Binstock
Outline to begin the New rainbow legend... honouring the new generation of "rainbows" coming into the world today.
To open the story (and for notes to develop a story board) we arrive at a "normal" house in a normal neighborhood. The "viewer" is zooming into a party setting at the house of "Mr. Father", there are many people of all ages and backgrounds at this party. They are celebrating something special. Mr. Father works as a naturalist for a local area national park. His work colleagues and their families are attending this party.
Pan into a conversation between a few of the adults, sitting in the main room, just off the back yard patio - their children are nearby and quite interested in what Mr. Father is saying about his latest research; spectrographic analysis of various samples of rock from a particular location at the park and noting the intensities in the rainbows produced through the analysis. With that someone began talking about the old indian legend about the "Rainbow Warriors" which captures the interest of the children.
(this can be fleshed out with more detail - but the legend is the important part - it's what inspires the kids into the greatest adventure of all time and their actions help to actualize the legend!)
While the children are listening to the story of the Rainbow Warrior - like most young people their minds wander with the story. In their minds' eyes they see images of "Rainbow People" and begin formulating the story to try to comprehend it in their terms.
Just then the youngest child - a baby - awakes in the next room crying. At the same time all the people in the room notice that the clouds in the sky are lightening up. As two large clouds part, a bright ray of sunshine breaks through the gloom. Meanwhile the Nanny goes to get the baby and walks into the room with baby Jessica Father - who is not in her best mood. As Mr. Father starts to talk to his daughter Jessica the ray of sunshine strikes several crystals that were hung in a large window. Instantly the room is filled with rainbows - as if by magic - as it's just so on cue - and at the same time Jessica notices the rainbows on the wall beside her. She laughs and giggles and a huge smile breaks out on her face - her tears and bad temper completely forgotten!
Another rainbow touches on the family dog, awakening her as she was sleeping in the corner by the fireplace - her favourite spot! As the dog - Cyan - awakes there is much commotion in the room and she goes to investigate what the kids are up to.
The kids - they didn't miss a beat - they knew exactly what happened - the Rainbow Warriors had come to Jessica's assistance. They had helped her awake with joy in her heart! The children got to talking about it. They also noticed the affect the rainbow energy had on their dog Cyan who also appeared quite jovial... The children began scanning the room and making note of where the rainbows were landing... On the walls, the furniture, the floor, even on someone's shirt...
Jessica pointed at one particular rainbow, reflecting off the wall near her and she crawled or toddled over to it. Smiling as she tries to touch it and she is amazed at how she can't touch it but how it can touch her - reflecting off her hand now as she reached for it, then her arm as she moved slightly. Then she turns to face the window where the light is streaming through and as she does the rainbow reflects off her plain white diaper shirt. Jessica jumps with glee and the other children notice the rainbow on her shirt and proclaim Jessica as the new "rainbow baby" ! All laugh! The other children run to various areas of the room where rainbow reflections can be seen and line themselves up so that each has a rainbow reflection on their clothing somewhere.
In that instant they are transformed into a magical rainbow world and each child understands immediately that they are "rainbows".
They make a pact with each other to carry on the legend and to actualize it into the modern world they know. They resolve that there are ways to solve problems and help people without interfering with them in any physical way - but simply by being touched by the rainbow energy. Once touched by the rainbow light any person is also transformed and whatever "problem" they were encountering right's itself - either someone changes their mind - or something dreadful that was about to occur magically doesn't. As if somehow energy building to a negative action is disapated and instead a "new way" of looking at things is realized. Averting any mishaps, anger or fear and putting a whole "new light" on the subject at hand.
Notes; the first episode could begin with the children making playmates of the rainbows as they flit about the walls, the crystals spinning in the window - perhaps brought on by a slight breeze as the weather continues to clear and bring in a "fresh" new cold front. (It had been stormy when their party had begun and they had to resort to an indoor party until this wonderful break occurs) The childrens' imagination allows them to "see" the reflections transform into characters on the wall - as if a movie screen.
(I have some photographs of rainbow reflections off a wall and rainbow reflections in crystals - Flenz - I learned my camera is so sweet it will catch these lovely details! And with my Photoshop software I can modify these images and "transform" them into characters of some sort... That's my next project over the next few days!)
And there you have it. The pact of the Rainbows begins at this rainbow party and even the adults can appreciate that there is something very special about this... The adults are certain they'll figure it out, and the children wonder why all the commotion - it just works is all, do we need to know why it works or how it works - "No!", the children say - it works and that is really all there is to it!
"Change your mind and you change your world," One of the older children reminded Mr. Father, "that's your favorite saying, isn't it, Sir?" Maybe the rainbow energy is simply a reflection of this idea... That by stopping for a moment and not re-acting automatically or reflexively to a stressful situation, but instead attempting to "see" if there are other alternatives and therefore other solutions available. then whole new solutions can be uncovered or brought into light...
Mr. Father just realized how very bright this child is - in more ways than one... (we'll leave the rest for your imagination at the moment!)
stay tuned for the further adventures of.....
